Customizing a project with icon and color

Customization Options

Each project and task can be customized with three visual elements:

Icons

Choose from hundreds of Lucide icons to represent your projects and tasks. Icons appear as small badges on cards, making it easy to identify different types of work:

  • Use a camera icon for photography projects
  • Use a code icon for development tasks
  • Use a calendar icon for event planning
  • Use a shopping-cart icon for e-commerce work

Accent Colors

Pick an accent color from a curated palette of 20 harmonious colors. The accent color:

  • Creates a colored background for icons
  • Shows as a small dot when no icon is selected
  • Helps visually group related items

Cover Images

Add cover images to make projects and tasks stand out:

From Unsplash: Search millions of free, high-quality photos powered by Unsplash.

Custom Upload: Upload your own images (JPEG, PNG, GIF, WebP up to 5MB). Images are automatically resized and optimized for fast loading.

Visual Feedback

Customizations appear throughout the app:

  • Project cards display cover images at the top, with icons and accent colors in the title
  • Task cards show cover images, icons, and accent dots for quick identification
  • Search results include visual customizations for easy recognition

Best Practices

  1. Be consistent: Use similar icons and colors for related projects
  2. Use sparingly: Not every item needs customization - reserve it for important or frequently accessed items
  3. Cover images for context: Use cover images that represent the project’s purpose or current focus
  4. Accent colors for status: Consider using color coding (e.g., red for urgent, blue for planning)

Accessibility

All customizations are purely visual enhancements and don’t affect functionality:

  • Icons and colors supplement, not replace, text labels
  • Cover images use the dominant color as a loading placeholder
  • Screen readers announce the item name and status, not visual customizations
